Nina Gracia - A Career Girl On the GO
Mediabistro.com has reported - Hachette Filipacchi and its flagship, Elle, are in a tizzy at the moment, sparked by the acrimonious departure of fashion editor Nina Garcia, and the imminent loss of its toehold on mainstream consciousness through Project Runway. Now it appears that the show (which is moving from Bravo to Lifetime) is switching from Elle to quasi-rival Marie Claire, and taking Garcia with it. The New York Post's Page Six column reported on Friday that she's joining the magazine either as part of or in the parallel to the deal (no official confirmation is forthcoming). To make things worse, Elle suffered a mini-layoff of sorts a few weeks back during the reshuffling of staff following her departure ... read more >
So, Project Runway moved from Elle to Marie Clare and Nina followed. I got it. If this move is anything like the move from Banana Republic to Macy's following the first season. I will stop watching the show now.
I think sponsors matter. As Heidi would say you're either in or you're out. I consider both Macy and Marie Claire to be out. Out of sync, that is, with Project Runway's intent. This recent shift will continue to drive the apparent disconnect. A further dilution of the individual style and independent design spirit inwhich the show was built upon.

Hot Cross Buns
Ladylike style is definitely back with a vengeance in the fashion world, and beauty trends are no exception. Refined, sophisticated looks are finally returning to our wardrobes and the bun is the perfect hairdo to complement these styles. Effortless and chic, this hairstyle can easily be worn for a day in the office or drinks on the town. Bad hair days be gone by simply showing that hair whose boss and twisting it up in a simple bun. Practically a universally flattering style, the bun creates a lifting effect to any face shape, raising cheek bones and elongating the neck. This versatile 'do is also great for lazy Saturdays, after workout sessions, quick shopping excursions, or any other no-fuss occasion. When going casual, make it more bohemian by forgetting your comb and simply fasten those textured locks into a disheveled twist, securing the very unruly tresses with bobby pins. Try not to put too much effort with this style, it's these disorderly elements that make this 'do really turn some heads. For evening, try a more traditional ballerina bun, or for the more whimsical gals, twist a braided pony tail into a bun. Don't be afraid to add a vintage hair comb to really add some flair to this style for evening. Get creative and play with your options, because let's face it, effortless sophistication is always fashionable.

The Fresh Glam Look
Let's face it, you have a social agenda which requires a new fresh glam look for each event. The extended invite to be a "trophy girl" for that cozy dinner date or high profile fund raiser will necessitate an atypical Austin evening of glitz-n-glam.
Of course, one phone call may not place you on the red carpet but it will obligate you to a evening with Mr. WHOM EVER - so, make the most of it... ![]()
Here's styleshaker.com's dos and don'ts to capture that fresh youthful evening glam.
Our list of Dos include:
Do keep your hair natural and flowing
Do go light on the jewels
Do keep a shimmery glow (gloss on the lips and shimmer on the cheeks)
Do stay monochromatic for super formal events
![]()

Our list of Don'ts include:
Don't overexpose the girls
Don't go too short (obscenely short hemlines scream desperation)
Don't sport super saturated hair color
Don't add bows (evening cute doesn't translate)
![]()
(left to right: Lisa Rhinna, Pheobe Price, Sandra Oh)
Make sure to incorporate a few of our dos. I recommend you to follow the stylish lead from such A-listers as Rebecca, Terri or Eva. The outcome promises to shed years and freshen up even your best attempt.

Glitz-n-Glam : Lucy Liu
Imagine if you took each one of your favorite "it hits" and threw them all into one outfit. Would you love the results? For those uber trendseers or shopping addicts, sure.
Admit it! The loud and proud ensemble of your latest finds touts your tried and true talents.
Here's Lucy Liu as she departures from the David Letterman Show. No doubt making an appearance to stir up ratings for ABC's "Cashmere Mafia." A bit over the top her outfit screams tacky.
I love the idea of the long leather glove exaggerating a quarter length sleeve but that is about it for this misfire.

2007 American Music Awards Recap
I must admit - I gathered my girlfriends and watched this Sunday's 2007 American Music Awards from start to end. The evening's unexpected line up of flashback and fashion included my life long favorites Duran Duran, the unbelievable Alysia Keys and ever changing Fergie.
Despite the greasy Kid Rock with no shirt, things were a bit different. The fashionable ladies winning the awards this year covered the cleavage. In fact, Fergie, Carrie Underwood, Amanda Bynes and Taylor Swift all wore high modest necklines. Yes the high neckline, mini dress, bold cuff, metallic clutch and clear gloss on the tootsies appear to be all the rave.
Minus Taylor's cowboy boot foul ... the look may just catch on.

Giltz-n-Glam - Pulled Back and Extension Free
As the ole saying goes "pulled back and extension free", Right? Honestly, hair extensions are all the craze and readily available. Most A-listers swear by the look. So, isn't it refreshing to see something different. The carefree tousled pulled back look updates things a bit, just ask Sarah, Eva or Heidi.
The key is to avoid recreating your circa 1990 prom date picture. Translation the perfect slicked back, high up do or ringlet curls ... are done for now. Instead opt for something low and tousled. So, stock up on those bobby pins and loose the extra can of aqua net. Carefree styles have found their way back into evening elegance.

Giltz-n-Glam Shorten Your Locks
Most hairdressers worth their clippers know all to well - change a girl's hair color or length and you could potentially be opening a flood gate. Only human, I have even found myself in tears once or twice.
In fact, it was the summer of my junior year. I remember bringing a picture of Cindy Crawford to my hairdresser. I requested a little wisp and lift. Instead, I found myself sporting my first set of bangs. Walking out of the salon in tears. My sister simply reminded me "the best thing about hair is that it grows back".
Determined to make the best out of my new do. I embraced my new look. Refreshed and updated most girls should heed my advice. Press beyond your comfort level. Here are a few of those A-listers moving beyond their "comfort zone" and creating great new looks.

Giltz-N-Glam - 2007 Runway to Heaven
Styleshaker's Beth Lambert and Jenny Miller were in attendance, along with other socialites, famed designers and media types, for the Runway to Heaven Fashion Show charity event. It was held at the UT Alumni center. The goal was to raise money for the Heart House a non-profit after-school program for low income and at risk children
Excited to see the inner workings - I ran to the back to get the inside on the "style stir" just before the show was set to start. Not a dress left on the hanger. The show and debut of a few new names was set to start ...
Here's the list of designers and my favorite piece from each.
1. vluxe - Wash lamb nubuck jacket with constant stitching and fabric, color, tan.
2. Linda ASAF - Metalllic Brocade coatdress with fabric flower brooch.
3. Ramonster - Girl on the Flying Trapeze Dress
4. ChamsHill - Bolero
5. Nilmin - Turquoise blue empire waist silk chiffon
6. F 3-Designs, designer Forest Bell (a.k.a fabric junkie) - Blue Silk Jersey Dress. (my favorite piece of the show)
The Austin Chronicle's Stephen Moser emceed along with the amazing duo from Anthony Nak.
Both Anthony Camargo and Nak Armstrong broke away from their fall media and production schedules to fly back to Austin to show their support for the charitable cause and new-found designers.
Nak Armstrong mentioned "we should all support local designers... we all have to start somewhere ... why not support that independent spirit."
The event was a success. The designers all had their own point of view creating a great show. Even those in attendance pushed my style buttons. Here's Jill Ragsdale PR Coordinator for Anthony Nak. A total styleshaker in a dress she snatched from Estilo.
No worries if you were unable to attend. I will make sure to pass along information concerning the online auction ... soon enough.

Stars-N-Stitches
We all know celebrities have the resources to do things most of us only dream of... Dear the new clothing line designed by Amanda Bynes for Steve and Berry's is an other reminder just how easy it is for noteable A-listers to set-up shop.
The "star to stitch" trend has Amanda Bynes joining the likes of Jessica Parker (Bitten - another Steve and Berry's line), Mandy Moore(Mblem), Jessica Simpson (Jessica Simpson), Sienna Miller + Sis (Twenty8twelve), Justin Timberlake, Gwen Stefani (L.A.M.B).
