(CBS 42) AUSTIN We know Austin is known for it's music, but its fashion sense? A local fashion lover is working hard to put the Capitol City on the map by running a Web site devoted to Austin's fashion scene.
You could call Austinite Beth Lambert a trend spotter. As the founder of styleshaker.com, she's made it her goal to shine the spotlight on Austin's trend makers.
"Styleshaker is really an ambassador to local talent, specialty retailers, and really getting the shopper more educated on what to buy and how," Lambert said.
On styleshaker.com there are three sections. Shop Austin lists Austin retailers, broken down by who you're buying for. The Daily Dish section profiles local designers and the latest fashions.
"Daily Dish is kind of like a beauty find, an online find, what's going on with celebrities, trend trackers, what's going on in Austin, what you shouldn't be doing and wearing," Lambert said.
And the Style Shakedown section shows what celebrities are wearing and how to find them 'on the cheap.'
In addition to local designers listed on the web site, Austin's boutiques are also profiled, like Factory People on South Congress.
It's here that Lambert is snapping pictures of the latest fashions.
"They're going above and beyond to bring in, not only new clothing into Austin, but they're really ambassadors of going out and representing Austin to a more global audience," Lambert said.
Owner, Le Popov, has seen more traffic to her store, thanks to Lambert's Web site. The Factory People customer is one who spends a lot of time online.
"A Web site that is put together really well, that's really clean, that uses good fonts, has really good photography is going to have a really good following," Popov said. "She's basically helping bring more style into Austin."
Lambert just wants to see Austin's style elevated to a national level.
"I want to start to define Austin as another creative outlet for more than just musicians," she Lambert said.
Lambert's keen eye for style caught the attention of AOL. She's now a contributor for AOLstyleblog.com that along with styleshaker.com is helping put Austin style on the map.
