Shop Austin - Saturday Stroll

It's another beautiful weekend morning... What's a bright-eyed Styleshaker to do? We just happen to have a few ideas.

Today's Mission: Food, fitness, fun (and maybe a little shopping) in the West End district.

Sure, you probably know about London's theater-saturated West End, but Austin has an area known as the West End, too - and it's home to some of our favorite spots. Defined as the range of blocks between West Sixth Street and Enfield Road and West Lynn Street and Lamar Boulevard, it's a close-in corner of the city worth getting to know.

Start your day at historic Nau's Enfield Drug (1115 West Lynn St., 476.1221), a pharmacy and drugstore with a lunch counter at the back. Breakfast here is an unadorned affair. Choose a perch on an old-school ice-cream parlor chair, order up and egg special and enjoy that special buzz that only diner coffee can impart.

If you'd rather go contemporary than historic, Galaxy Café (1000 West Lynn St., 478.3434), across the street, offers a zany menu of round-the-world specials in a hip, airy dining room.

After breakfast, browsing. Pop across the street to El Interior (1009 West Lynn St., 474.8680) to ogle imported bead necklaces, colorful Mexican blouses and unique tote bags your gal pals definitely won't have. Nothing in the shop will break the bank, so pick up a trinket if you feel so inclined.

Next point the car to Fetish (1112 N. Lamar Blvd., Ste. E, 457.1007) for the small but punch-packing collection of floaty tops, tailored bottoms and best of all, shoes! Snap up Sigerson Morrison's exquisite flats or Taryn Rose's feminine creations.

Shoes alone doth not an outfit make, so head to Hem (908-B W. 12th St., 478.5326), in the shopping complex just across Lamar Blvd. Fall into a denim daze as you try out cutting-edge styles from the likes of Serfontaine and J Brand Jeans.
